How I use my resting bitch face to my advantage.

Resting bitch face, also called RBF, has been something I’ve fought against my entire life. I didn’t like that it was mainly directed at females…and Kanye. When I was first writing this, I wanted to stay neutral and just give a positive outcome to being labeled with RBF. But the more I wrote, the more I realized that while the male population may find guidance in this, this guidance is for all the women out there.

There’s always a balance that has to be kept at work if you’re female. Smiling is something I have to actively think about doing to seem approachable. But don’t smile too much. If you smile too much, you’ll seem ditzy. That was exhausting to keep up with. It’s also something I rarely hear male colleagues deal with nor have I ever heard someone tell them to “just smile!”.

Now that I’m getting older, I don’t care what people think of me. I also realized I can use my RBF to my advantage at work.

People are more interested in what I have to say

While this works only if you’re also quiet, people want to know what is going on in my head at work. They might explain a new process out loud to multiple people but they’ll want to know what I’m thinking about.
