How to Get Over a Breakup When You’re Sober
It won’t be like the movies.
If you read my recent post, I’m attempting to get back into the dating scene.
My last relationship was nearing six years before we ended things so it’s safe to say that there had been a lot of time and effort invested into it. But here I am, ready to get back into it.
The interesting part is that almost 90% of my sobriety has been in that relationship so when I moved out, I realized — I had never had to deal with a breakup sober. How does one even do it without drowning themselves in alcohol? The movies always show a group of friends showing up with ice cream and wine, ready to help you forget about your ex, helping you move forward one glass at a time.
But how do we move forward now?
New hobbies
Alcohol in a break up is only good for one thing — delaying the healing process. While you may forget about the person, or worse, end up up texting them, the pain is still there and will come back to you.
