And why it’s the reason I’ll stay sober

If you read my latest post about how this time I’ll be sober, you’ll also see earlier posts where I had been sober before, for about four years. A breakup and some insecurity came out, which I won’t excuse, but it caused me to slip back into drinking. And this time, I wasn’t quitting for a significant other, I was quitting for myself which made things hard. I had a bunch of starts and stops before I made the plan to officially go sober, and it was something obvious that made me know I could never go back.

While I have multiple reasons to stay sober, it was one night that really changed the trajectory of my life, forcing me to acknowledge that I needed to go sober this time, or it wouldn’t be great news for me or who and what I care about.

The main reason I wanted to give up drinking was because it wasn’t just about me, and it hasn’t been for a while. If you didn’t know, I got a puppy last year, bringing my household number to 5. It’s myself, two cats, an older dog, and then the puppy. Having that many lives depend on me generally…
