My biggest trigger in sobriety.

Why alcohol is still on my mind.

I know this post is pretty niche to relate to. You’d have to be:

  • Someone with ovaries
  • A person who has super painful periods
  • A recovering alcoholic who used alcohol to get over said pain

Bear with me here. While you may not relate to those, as someone who goes through sobriety, you may have something that triggers you. It might be that glass of wine you would have while cooking or that group of friends you’d meet at the bar on Fridays.

For me, I can get over the fact that I can’t drink at the bar anymore or have a glass of wine with dinner. I feel like alcohol has released its hold on me and I have risen above it!

..Until that time of the month. Really, at this time everything I’m doing for my health goes out of the window. Diet? Not this week! Going to the gym? What’s a gym?

Whenever it happens, I’m confined to my bed against my will in the most pain I’ve ever felt. Well, until next month. No amount of Midol or ibuprofen would relieve this and believe me, I tried the heating pads and “natural” medicines and approaches.

The only thing that would work consistently would be to drink the pain away. If I’m going to be tied to my bed anyway might as well be…
