The Last of Us: Why I feared the humans more.
With the sequel coming out, I’ve been thinking about “The Last of Us” a lot recently. I’m not alone when I say that this game was one of the best games I’ve ever played. I don’t complete many games but I beat this in one week because I had been so engrossed in the story. With our current political and environmental situation, I could see certain events as a possibility for us.
I remembered the game had some scary moments in it that were comparable to other horror games I had played. What made it scary? The humans.
The Quarantine Zone
When the main game’s events start, it’s because 60% of the population became infected with the Cordyceps fungus, also known as the Cordyceps Brain Infection. Because of the panic that was spreading through humanity, the military set up quarantine zones, fortifying themselves and the human inhabitants from the infected outside.
It seems nice, right? To be protected by the military and be ensured you have a place to live and eat.
But rations were low and more often than not, inhabitants wouldn’t have enough food to eat. There was no democratic law either. The military were the law and you would have to do everything that they say, including a strict curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.. The population was kept in the dark about all…
