What sobriety means for me: The good and the bad.

It’s not always good things. At least, not yet.

When people hear about sobriety, they hear that it’s hard to quit. There will be a lot of stops and starts over and over again until there aren’t. They’ll hear about how hard it is to be around alcohol and how hard it is to cope with things.

Or, they’ll hear the other side. Quitting drinking was the best thing that they could have done. It’s been nothing but sunshine in their lives and now all of their relationships are more meaningful. They wake up loving every day and things couldn’t be better.

Now that I’m over 100 days sober, I can tell you I’m neither of those people. I’d be more of the middle category that people fail to see. The still growing individual who doesn’t know themselves without alcohol enough to really form great relationships yet. I’ve grown a lot since my first post about sobriety. Maybe you remember my first ever post about sobriety here.

We don’t really know the thoughts of the people who are residing at the opposite ends either. They could have good or…
