What you do when you can’t drink while you’re camping

How to prepare for the urge to drink alcohol.

I’m going camping this weekend and I should be excited. I really should. But like all events that I had always done while drinking alcohol, I’m nervous.

Part of exploring what you like once you give up drinking is finding out what you only liked because you were drinking. Turns out I don’t like spending 4 hours at a bar. Or being in really crowded places.

So what if I don’t like camping? What if I go all the way out there in the beautiful wilderness and realize that I’m miserable? I won’t set myself up for failure so I wrote down how I’ll tackle this trip. Maybe it can help you out too.

Have a backup plan

Sobriety can be tricky in situations where you normally would drink. Your body and mind love following habits so the need to drink is going to be a little higher than normal. Or maybe it won’t. Regardless, don’t bet on an unsure thing. You need to plan ahead.

I don’t know how I’ll be so I am going to be bringing nonalcoholic beers with me just in case. I actually don’t drink them that often so I can use them in times like these. They’re just enough where I can keep the craving away because it takes care of the need for the taste without getting me drunk. If I felt like…
