Why You Should Start a Sobriety Instagram Account
I wouldn’t have made it as long without it.
If you google how to get sober, the main resource you’re going to get is AA. While it’s great for some people, it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t enough to make me accountable or motivated enough to stay sober. I couldn’t get behind the process and the underlying religious tone didn’t help.
And what can I say? I’m a millennial. I spend a lot of my time on the internet so it made sense that the first place my “sober curious” self went was to Reddit, specially the r/stopdrinking subreddit. It was amazing to see people in different stages of sobriety showcasing their struggles and victories. I was motivated to start attempting sobriety but it was tough making connections through the site.
It was great and a step in the right direction but I still felt that I was missing something. On a whim, I transformed my failed fitness Instagram account into a sobriety one. Going into the “explore” option, I saw that the “sober” tag was being used over 2 million times. I was surprised but intrigued, this could be the element in my sobriety I was missing.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t made my account a sobriety one. I’ve made friends, been motivated through my darkest days, and have helped others do the same. But what does having a sobriety account…
