You aren’t limited to just plain sparkling water at a bar
You can be sober and have interesting drinks at the same time.
One of my very first experiences as a newly sober person was going to a dive bar.
There was a band playing that my boyfriend liked so I went wearily went along. I figured at most, I could drink water if they didn’t have anything else.
Water, though, is boring. It didn’t take long for me to look longingly at the beer that my boyfriend was drinking and want that instead. I needed a nonalcoholic option but you know how dive bars are. Unless you don’t know what a dive bar is then we need to cover that first.
I realized recently that the term “Dive bar” is a very American term, one that I noticed not a lot of people use. I didn’t even know what a dive bar was until I moved to Austin. A dive bar is a bar that has a limited menu for drinks and generally is a little run down. It would be the bar that you might go to because it’s close to you or because it’s a shady but not too shady bar that you can get cheap drinks at.
They’re known for having very limited drink options, usually only keeping the bare minimum on hand. But even at a dive bar, you can get a drink that isn’t just water. If you’re thinking of going sober for good or just doing a dry month, here’s a few drinks that you should be…
